* When George Wallace became governor, his main focus' were to stop desegregation, he offered tax abatements to those companies that would place a plant in Alabama, he began a junior college program, so students would be prepared to have a four-year degree.
*While in the city of Dallas, Texas, Wallace announced that he planned to challenge the then president, John F. Kennedy in the elections in November 1964, in the Democratic Party.

  • For his campaign, Wallace went in the opposite direction of the Civil Rights Act.
*In Wisconsin, Maryland, and Indiana he won a third of the vote for each state.
*Obviously, he lost the presidential election, and the Alabama Constitution prevented Wallace from a second term in 1966.
*Because of this, Wallace's wife ran, as a surrogate candidate.
*She won, and was inaugurated in January of 1967, but in May of 1968 she died of cancer.
